Hamstring Pain & Running Injuries
You know the pattern: you run, and somewhere around a certain distance or a certain amount of time, the pain shows up. So you shorten the run. Then you shorten it again. Physical therapy helps for a while, and then the pain comes back, and you start wondering if you're just going to have to give up something you love.
A lot of running-related hamstring pain isn't coming from the muscle belly itself; it's coming from the proximal attachment, high up where the hamstring connects at the hip and pelvis. That's a detail that's easy to miss in a general treatment plan, and it's often why relief doesn't hold: the area actually driving the pain was never directly addressed.
What We've Seen
One runner had reached the point of being afraid to run at all. She'd been through physical therapy, which helped temporarily, but the pain always returned. Working together, we identified the source as the proximal attachment of the hamstring. After a few focused sessions, she was running distance again. Three months of intermittent work later, she completed a half marathon without pain.
“Nothing but 5 star service. Carrie was great and my run weary legs move/feel so much better after the session. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, skilled touch and professionalism!”
If PT has helped but the pain keeps circling back, that's often a sign the root cause hasn't been fully addressed yet, not that nothing more can be done.
